STOCK SALES.
• ADDINGTON. [bs telegbaph— pbess association.] CHRISTCHURCH, sth October. At Addington to-day there were moderate entries of stock, and a good attendance. Fat cattle were firm at late rates, and store hoggets sold well, but ewes and lambs were not in such good demand. Fat lambs showed a sharp riso in values, and fat sheep opened firm at the previous week's rates. Pigs were in good demand. Prices for both store and dairy cattle were easier. The entry for store sheep was not quite equal' to last week's in point of numbers, and was made up chiefly of hoggets and ewes and lambs. There was a keen demand for the hoggets, but the continued dry weather affected the Bale of the ewes and lambs, and they were disposed of at below late rates. Ewe hoggets sold up to 15s 9d; wether hoggets to 13s 6d, mixes sexes to 13s 6d, small wether hoggets to 9s 9d, aged owes and lambs 7s 9d to Bs, sound mouth ewes and lambs 9s 9d, all counted. The entry of fat lambs totalled 137, or rather less than the entry last week. The quality was good, and there was a sharp advance m prices, best sorts making 15s to 18s 3d, and smaller 11s to 14s 6d. The yarding of fat sheep was a comparatively small one, and the quality was hardly so good as was the case on the provious week. It consisted mainly of- crossbred and halfbred wethers, with an odd line of ewes and merino wethers, there being more of tho latter than has been tho case of late. The market opened under keen competition at prices fully up to the level of last week s rates, and in some cases over the range of prices. Prime wethers 21a to 26s 3d, extra to 335, lighter 15s 8d to 20s, prime owes 19s 3d to 25s 3d, others 13s lid to 19s, hoggets 15s Id to 18s 9d, prime merino wethers 15s lid to 21s. The supply of beof totalled 182 head, or about the same as on tho previous week, but the quality showed a falling off. The demand, however, was keen, and late ratea were firmly maintained. Steers made £6 17s 6d to £14 15s, heifers £5 10s and £10 7s 6d, cows £4 15s to £11 ss. The rates were 30s to 335, and in some cases to 35s per 1001b for prime; second quality 295, and inferior 26s to 28s. A large yarding of veal calves sold at a decline of 5s per head in oonsequence of an oversupply, the prices ranging from 4s to 40s, and up to £4 for yearlings. Store cattle were dull of sale on account of the dry weather, and prices were easier. Yearlings made 30s to 44s 6d, two-year steers and heifers £4- 10s, dry cows £2 10s and £4 ss. Dairy cows were also easier, and several of the best were passed. Prices forged from £2 10s to £8 12s 6d. The yarding of pigs was an average one. Prime baconers were in specially good demand, and porkers also sold well, but stores were dull of sale, a large supply being on offer. Heavy baconers made 48s to 60s, and lighter 42s to 475, equal to 4id per lb, larger porkers 38s to 41s, and lighter 28s to 37s 6d, equal to 4Jd; per lb; large stores, 18s to 22s 6d; smaller, 14s to 17s 6d, weaners 5s 6d to 9s. JOHNSONVILLE. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Johnsonville sale as follows: — Wo offered a heavy yarding of prime sheep and cattle io a large attendance of buyers.
