Mr. Duncan Rutherford, who is entirely in sympathy with the proposal, augmented the above sum by giving £50 towards the same object. A successful concert was given last evening in tho Sydney-street Primitive Methodist Schoolroom by the lady members of the Sydney-street, and .northland Primitive Methodist Mutual Improvement Society. There was a large and appreciative audience. It was •'ladies' evening/" always one of the best evenings of the session. Songs were given by Mrs. Grant, Misses. Baker (4K Jeau Nicholas, Elsie Florence (2), aud Mrs. Kelly ; recitations (4) by Miss B. Luke ; a. pianoforte solo by Miss Fitzmauriee; a pianoforte duet, by Misses Luke ; and si piano and organ duet, by Misses J. Nicholas and C. Clark. A comiedetta, entitled "Beyond a Joke," was well acted by Misses D. and L. Nicholas. A dialogue, "No Followers .Allowed," was merrily given by ten lady members, who also sang four part songs. The next meeting will be in ] th© form of a "Mock Parliament" on the 17th October. The Marquis Tirco Olnzabel, who is in closa touch with Don Jaime, in an interview in the journal Corriere Delia Sera, states that the stories about the decay of the Carlist movement sire fictions. While the party is unwilling in any wise to become the tool of the anarchical element in Spain, nevertheless Don Jaime will lead the Carlist forces to battle on the day when the sacred prerogatives of the Roman Catholic Church are assailed.
