HOSPITAL CONTRIBUTIONS.
CURIOUS POSITION AT LYTTELTON. fBX TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A curious position has arisen with regard to the contribution of the Lyttelton borough 'to the funds of the Hospital Board. The borough was billed for £489, the amount being calculated on a valuation of £799,535. The" Borough Council, however^ objects. It states that the correct valuation is £505,185, and has requested the Valuer-General to inform the Hospital Board to that effect. The borough's contribution on this basis would be £180. The board, however, declines to reduce its demand, and says it has complied with the statutory i requirements in ascertaining the valuations of contributing districts. The Lyttelton Borough Council will now make a formal protest to the Government, and request that an enquiry be instituted to settle its assessment. AN EXPLANATION. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. In regard to the dispute between the Hospital Board and the Lyttelton Borough Council it is explained that the valuation supplied to the board included the wharves, dock, and other property not subject to borough rates. The board's difficulty is that if it reduced Lyttelton's contributions it would involve increases in tho contributions of other bodies and a readjustment of the scale generally.
