CONVENTION IN WELLINGTOtf. In the course of Saturday's sitting ot the V.M.C.A. Beecher Smith be nx ceived, and that he be informed that it has been ' duly considered by. ' tbo National Convention of the Australasian Y.M.C.A.'s, and wishes to assure him of its thorough concurrence in the objects and aims of bis department, and; its earnest desire, through the individual secretaries, to render all tha ae-i sistance and information possible. 'With this object in view, all secretaries able to help are asked to communicate direct." In the afternoon an adjournment was made to Day's Bay, where delegate* were the guests of' Mr. and Mrs, Ker^ ley. ■ ' - PROCEEDINGS ON SUNDAY. At 10 o'clock on Sunday morning, about forty residents of the association and the delegates held a meeting in th* V.M.C.A., which was led off by th» late general secretary of the Gisborne Association (Mr. C. Webster). Later on, in the afternoon, Mr. J. J. Virgo discoursed before a crowded audience of men in the assembly hall on the "Nobility of Work." According to the speaker, it was a noble disposition that incited men to work. Honourable and noble conduct rather tfeaa. wealth or ancestry conferred on men. the stamp of greatness. The great purpose and beauty of life was misted by a man who was idle. Self-reliance, Indomitable energy, and perseverance were the characteristics of man, and it made the world better. Mr. Virgo also stressed the importance of giving th© brain and muscle necessary exercise. In holding that the essential preliminary of any true work for God wa* the belief in Jesus Christ, the speaker stated that indifference and not infidelity was 'the curse of the age.
