BROOKLYN.

Fifteen members of the Brooklyn Club turned up to Saturday's rendezvous, the Thorndon Baths. F. Hodson and J. Don were told off to lay the paper. Tho trail led from tho baths, along the Esplanade, and thence by road to Kaiwarra. From this point the paper took the pack up tho Kuiwarra Gorge lor about half a mile and then over the hills to Ngaio. The pack was divided —a slow lot being under the control "of the deputy-captain (G. Ranger) and the fast set led by G. Wilton (captain). They finished up in a large tract of thick gorse. The main road was then struck, and after a mile had been covered, the paper led down into Ngahauranga. An even pace was maintained until Kaiwarra was again picked up, the pack then stopping for a run in from this point. After a splendidly judged race, Tom Barnes oiicb more proved successful by about a yard from C. Coad (a young and promising harrier). N. Beaven ran into third place a fuw yards behind, while G. Ranger and, W. Wilton finished fourth and fifth respectively, a short distance back. A word of praise is due to a. new member {(J. Brown), who experienced his second run with the club, and who put up a splendid performance. Next Saturday's run will be from Miramar tram terminus, when the final run will be made to pick a team to represent the club at the New Zealand cress country championship, to be run at Invcrt-argill on the 7th September

The formerisof the sentimental order, is not difficult, and is well within the compass of the average voice. The melody and accompaniment are pleasing, while tho harmonies have above the average merit. "The Scout," a vocal march, belongs to the American school, and ib spirited and tuneful and sufficiently original. "Had You But Known" and "The Scout" are published by Mrs. W. M. Bojes, of Otahuhu,
