SCHOOLS SCANDALS.
«> ALLEGED BRIBERY REGARDING APPOINTMENTS. Bj Telegraph. -Press Association.- -Copyright. NEW YORK, 22nd July. A scandal has come- to light in connection with the New York Board of Education, as a consequence of which Mr. James Holland, a prominent Labour Unionist, lias resigned his seat on the board, in order to forestall the action of a committee which is enquiring into his public speech in April, wherein he j counselled all employers guilty of ! bribery, and similar offences, to keep quiet, because "a squealer >vas worao than a man taking a 'bribe." Current investigations into scnool affairs in New Jersey show that some places have a Regular scale of bribes for various appointments. Similar practices are suspected toexist in New York.
