i CONSTABLE AND ALLEGED I BURGLAR. [BY TELEGBAPH — PEESS ASSOCIATION.]
AUCKLAND, This Day. Constable Clayton was informed at 11 o'clock last night that a suspicious character had entered a house in Edencrescent. He discovered a man barefooted, who bolted. The policeman pursued and overtook him, and the man drew a knife. The policeman grappled with and disarmed him. Investigation showed that three houses had been entered. A bundle of clothing was found on the premises where the prisoner was discovered, together with a pair of boots and socks. The prisoner, who gave the name of David Tod, was before the court this morning and remanded.
