THE DEFENCE ACT.
APPRECIATORY REMARKS. The Farmers' Union has on its order paper for the present conference a lernit approving of the Defence Act. The president (ilr. 0. G. Wilson) expressed approval of the Act in his opening address to the confexence to-day. "During last session," he said, ''a Defence Act was passed, of the utmost importance to the welfai-e of the Dominion. Universal training was ' adopted, and I am suie, as \\\e have been consistent supporters of this principle, that we all li-eax-tily congratulate ti,e iHnistry and tho House on the passing of thif, measure. The visit of Lord Kitchener gave us the highest advice procurable as> t to the best means of carrying out tho provisions of the Act.
