The people of Linlon were promised some additional railway shed | accommodation. At Tokomaru tlie Minister was asked for a number of things, but his answers were non-committal. Regarding the request for a bridge, estimated to cost £400, he said the Railway Department might subsidise tho work £ for £ if the bridge was to be for general traffic. At Shannon it was mentioned that estimates of the cost of granting additional facilities for trucking stock were being prepared. The .minister promised to remind the Postmaster-Gen-eral about a sum of £700 which had appeared on the Estimates for a. new post office. Between Linton and Shannon, Mr. Field, M.P., drew the Minister's attention to the tortuous character of the main road, and urged the desirableness of a new road to cross tho Manawatu River by the Railway Bridge at Longburn. Mr. Millar undertook tn bring the matter under tne notice of the Hon. R. M'Kenzie, Minister of Public Works.
j Morse signalling was useful to the Hon. R. M'Nab in the harbour last night. The wharf was far away, and he desired to send a message to a friend ashore. A "feeler" was flashed out by j the Arawa's lamp, and it was picked up at Goldie's Brae by Mr. C. W. Palmer, j who has been more than once a friend in need in interpreting the dots and dashes. He .sent ttie message by telephone to its address, and flashed back | the reply to the Arawa. Mrs. Mafch&wson, Lawibton-quay, advertises that she is holding a clearing salo of all her winter stock, commencing to-mor-row. The management of OaJces's boot; stores advertise -that this will be the last week of -epecial oonceerions to customers.
