NEW ZEALAND. SYNOPSIS OF THE PAST 48 HOURS Westerly winds, strong to gale, have prevailed, with strong southerlies m many parts yesterday. Severe hail squalls were experienced in the extreme south on Saturday night. Rain has fallen in many parts, and the weather has been generally cold and changeable. Frosts were experienced last night in many parts, and seas have been very heavy on the West Coast. The barometer has risen steadily noithward of East Cape and Kawhia, but fell in the south till late on Saturday night, and has risen steadily since.
