PRICE OF FLOUR REDUCED.

The local agents for the associated jmllers (Messrs. D. W. Virtue and Co.) have received a telegram, stating that the price of flour was reduced by 10s per ton as from to-day. The price of flour free on board at Southern ports is, therefore, now £9 10s per ton.

On more than one occasion the question of Wellington taking advantage of flio Fira»Brigadese Act, 1908, has been discussed. It will come before the City Council again to-morrow night, when Councillor Ballinger will move — (1) That the council take steps under tie Bxovisions of the Fir© Brigades Act, 1908, and its amendments to* apply to the Governor for an Order- in- Council declaring the city of Wellington to be & fire district undeT the Fire Brigades Act, and tnat the necessary poll of ratepayers of tho city in. connection therewith be taken on some day to be appointed. (2) That the council requesi the Government to amend section 3 of the amending Act, 1908, by striking out the following words, "shall be deemed *o be carried unless at least one-third of the ratepayers of that district have validly exercised their votes in respect of that proposal," and substitute tho following : "That the proposal shah be deemed to ba carried if two-thirds of the .■valid votes of tho ratepayers are cast in favour of the proposal." Councillor Luke will move at the City Council meeting to-morrow night — "That, this council recognise that a very considerable portion of the city residential, commercial, and industrial developments will extend to Kilbirnie and adjacent district — together with the no doubt early extending of the city boundaries to embrace the Miramar Peninsula. Thai they are of th© opinion that the time has arrived when an improved acews connecting the city with the southern portion of its outlying areas ehould be given effect to — suc-h access to be of a minimum grade to enable a more speedy and humane vehicular traffic and provision for pedestrians. That to give effect to this desire the City Engineer fee instructed to survey route, prepare costs, and submit same lo the council at an early date, together with such other information and details 'as he and iho council may deem requisite to determine tW question.
