A WITNESS'S ABSENCE.
STRONGLY COMMENTED UPON. [BY TELEGEAPH — SPECIAL TO THE POST.J PALMERSTON N., This Day. In the Supreme. Court yesterday, when the charge against P. J. Daly of stealing a gold watch, the property of C. Pharazyn., was called, the Crown Prosecutor asked for an adjournment. He said the principal witness for the prosecution was away in Australia. His Honour commented severely on the witness's aJ»sence. He said lie would adjourn the crree till Wednesday next. "If Mr. Pharazyn is not here then," I he said, "I wil'i estreat his recognisances. I and he will have to pay his £50. I will recommend the Government to enforce the payment. A man, because h© holds a geed position, has no business to go away rroni the Dominion without 'yearning or notice."
