MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY.

The first ordinary meeting for this session of the Sydney-street and Northland Primitive Methodist Mutual Improvement Society was held last evening, when there was a fair attendance. The subject for the evening was a lecturette entitled, "The Gospel according to Dickens," given by the president, Rev. P. J. possum. The lecture was exceedingly interesting throughout, dealt with all the principal works, and gave several extracts bringing in the life and good work of Dickens in a very comprehensive manner. At the conclusion, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the president. During the evening Miss Jean Nicholas gave a pianoforte solo. The next meeting, a fortnight hence, will be a lecturetie by Mr. Beeson on "American Journalism."

Regret at the retirement of Mr. J. vV. Foreman, of Tikorangi, from taking -i part in the active management of the affairs of tho National Dairy Association is expressed in the sixteenth annual report of that body. The reference adds : "Soon after the annual meeting in June, 1909, Mr. Foreman found himself compelled by failing health to resign the position of director, which he had held for a period extending over sixteen years, with the exception of one year. From 1503 to 1909 he had filled "with credit to himself and honour to the association the position of president. During his connection with the association he had given of his time ungrudgingly to promote ite interests and that of the industry to which it was allied. Every suggested step to increase its usefulness and prosperity was conscientiously considered, and when approved it had his hearty support and co-opera-tion. The association is indebted to him in no small degree for the position it occupies to-day. Mr. R. Dingle, of Stratford, was appointed to fiil the vacancy caused by Mr. Foreman's resignation.-
