CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB.
[BY TELEGRAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION. I CHRISTCHURCH, 30th May. Over forty entries have been received by the Christchurch Sports Club for the Canterbury championships, which will be decided at the Theatre Royal on Thursday and Friday. H. Feinhols, who was for several years hon. secretary of the Transvaal Boxing Association, will compete in the lightweight class at the championships. R. W. Mnnt, an English bantamweight, will also be a competitor. J. J. Maloney, who last season won the heavyweight professional championship of New Zealand, and who recently left for Sydney with, the intention of making a lengthy stay there, has written to the secretary of the Christchurch Sports Club complaining of a match for the championship being arranged between Herbert and Picton, and insisting that he is the holder of the title. The Tules of the New Zealand Council provide that the holder of a championship forfeits his title if he leaves the Dominion for an extended period. As Maloney had announced that he expected to be absent for several months, the. •council considered that the title was vacant, and gave the Christchurch Sports Club permission to match Herbert and Picton. i
