GOLF.
WAIWETU CLUB. A considerable number of people, including ladies, assembled in the stewards' stand at the Hutt Park on Saturday on the occasion of the opening of the newly-formed Waiwetu Golf Club. Mr. R. C. Kirk, as chairman of the Provisional Committee of the Club, gave an interesting address on golf. The desire was to popularise the game, and he thanked the Hutt Park Committee for its generosity in making that possible by placing links at the disposal of the club at a nominal rent for the first year. Mr. H. Baldwin, chairman of the Hutt Park Committee, drove the first ball, and was then presented with a silver replies* of the hall, bearing an inscription com•memorating the event. An exhibition match, which was watched with great interest by the assemblage, was played between Mr. Kirk and Mr. W. Whiter head, professional of the Hutt Club, Mr. Kirk being the winner. The company was entertained at tea by the lady members of the club. WELLINGTON CLUB. The result of the Wellington Golf Club's monthly cleek competition (medal) was as follows: — Dr. Tolhurst, net 81; M. Ross, net 82 ; Dr. Webster, net 82 ; T. Young, net 82 ; A. Duncan, net 84 ; R. W. Kirkby, net 1 85 ; E. L. Chaffey, net 85 ; L. Hales, net 86. MIRAMAR CLUB. The mer»"s senior bogy compfctition was won by E. H. Liddle, and the junior competition by Dr. Boyd.
