News has been received of the death at Capetown of Mr. Jamas Price, art honorary member of the Cabinet, who was travelling for the benefit of his health. [Mr Price was born at Wimbledon, Surrey, England, in 1864, and educated at the City of London School in Milkstreet, Cheapside. He arrived in Australia in 1892, and resided in South Australia for five years. Since 1905 lie had been a member of the Legislative Assembly; in J906 he joined the- Moore Government.] PROFESSOR COOK. [B_ TELEGHAPH—PKESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Professor Cook, who' died at Marton, where his son practises as a solicitor, was one of the first three professors of Canterbury College—Messrs. MacMillan Brown and Bickerton being the other two. They came out to New Zealand at the end of 1874, and set to work with enthusiasm to build up a great educational institution. These three men were largely responsible for the pre-eminence of Canterbury College in the early days. At\the end of the seventies Professor Brown took up English and histoiy, which he believed to be of particular importance in a young conntry. Professor Haslani being brought out to fill the chair of classics. Some of the most brilliant university men in New Zealand passed through Professor Cook's hands, including Professor Rutherford, an authority on radioactivity. Professor Cook retired a couple of years ago owing to failing health.
