MARIE AT LYTTELTON. On Wednesday afternoon the Frencli barque Marie (Captain Grondm) was brought to a berth at Lytteiton after a vojage of 133 d.\ys from Philadelphia. The vessel is described as a "very fine type of a sturdy sailing ship." She left Philadelphia on the 4th January, and afer some heavy southeast weather crossed the line thirty-eight days later. The Cape of Good Hope was roundpd when eighty days out, much S.E. winds and I seas having retarded progress. A splendid series ' of views of the Aurora Australis diversified the voyage through the Southern Ocean, but tremendous south-east seas and gales made it unpleasant. One green sea came aboard on the 25th April, carried away the fore and aft bridge, and smashed the skylight over the crew's quarters. Cargo brought by the Marie comprised 75,000 cases of oils for Lytteiton and Dunedin. TAKEN BY THE ATHENIC. Advice has been received by the Union Company that the Moeraki left Sydney at 3.40 p.m. on Saturday for Wellington direct. The vessel is due here on Wednesday morning. ZEALANDIA'S MAIDEN VOYAGE. Cable advice has been received that the Huddart-Parker Company's new steamer Zealandia has sailed for Melbourne. A full description of this nfle vessel appeared in our issue of the 9th 3 T ay. On and after the 12th June the Northern Company's steamer Rarawa will revert to her iifiiial winter running -namely, twice ■weekly. She will leave Onehunga on Sundays and Wednesdays, and New Plj month on Mondays and Thursdajs. Mr. D. Cameron has been appointed third mate of the Kamona vice Mr. J. Rankin. Advice has been received by the Marine Department that the Bluff lightship has been replaced in its correct position. Laden with 27,006 sacks of wheat, representing 2)50 tons dead weight, the French barque Jacques sailed from Lytteiton for Queenstown or Falmouth yesterday. According to the Press, it is stated that the vessel is receiving a freight rate of £1 a ton. Mr. N. Campbell, of the Whangape. who is to undergo examination at Lytteiton for a master's certificate, will be succeeded on the vessel by Mr. G. F. Evans, late second officer of the Kamona. Mr. A. H. Brooks, third officer of the Koromiko, is now acting second of the Kamona. The Wairuna, which left Newcastle at 7 a.m. on Thursday, is due at Gisborne on Tuesday next. She has part cargo for Wellington. Mr. W. H. Hislop has been appointed second engineer of the Flora, vice Mr. W. A. Kelly, transferred to the Rotoiti. Mr. Bmnie joins the Flora as third engineer. Morse code for night signalling has now been installed at Waitara. Captain Lidstone, who is now master of the Nerehana, has associated with him the following officers :— Chief, Mr C. Turner (late second of the Nerehana); second, Mr. Charles Jones; third, Mr. G. Hearn; fourth, Mr. H. B. Smith. Mr. Chappell is the chief engineer. Mr. Tomalin second, Mr. McGregor third, Mr Rainey fourth, and Mr Smith fifth. Mr Wilson is the chief refrigerating engineer, and Mr. Young second. The vessel is due here about Thursday next. Mr. Val Duff joins the Hauroto to-day as purser in place of Mr. Hawker. Captain A. M. Edwin, of the Kaitangata, arrived from the south yesterday by the Maori. He is on holiday leave.
