HARRIERS.

* NOVICE HANDICAP. The Wellington Harriers opened their racing season on Saturday at the Hutt Park with a 2£ miles race for novices. Ther© were ten starters, who wei« despatched from the following handicaps —\V. Power and M. Harrison 45sect, W. White, E. O'Neill, C. Duck, and T. Johnson 40secs, R. ReicL 35aecs. G Whincup 30secs, F. Rollo losers, and AY. Chartres scratch. The limit men set n good pace, and at the end of the first lap, which was half the total distance, were a long distance ahead of the back markers. Chartres had moved up in the meantime to a level position with Rollo, but in the second lap died away somewhat, and finished out of a place. Power, who had made all the pace, was still leading at the entrance to the straight, but over the last furlong Harrison proved too good and won by five yards from Power. Rollo finished third 60 yards further back. The remainder ot the pack spent the afternoon in running about the racecourse, and, finished uj< with a three hundred yards sprint, in which the places were gained by'J. Fh n, R. Bust, and C. Lamberg. Officials toi the day were: —Judges, Messis. W. H. Bennett and W. H. Pollock; starter, Mr. F. Wilton; handicappers,' Messib. W. H. Pollock and W. F. Watt. 'Iho winner's time was 13min 13secs>. The club runs from Island Bay next Saturday. BROOKLYN. The Brooklyn Harriers "'held their weekly run from Karori on Saturday. 1 There was a good muster, about twen..y ' members following the excellent tra.a laid by C. Murray. The paper was jaid from Karori through Northland, thence to Wadestown, then through Wilton's Bush to Johnson's Bush and home. A run-in took place over tho last 440 yds, and was won by Don, with Delaney second, and Chapman third The rest finished close up.
