POLICE PROSECUTIONS.
There was a short sitting of the Magistrate's Court on Friday. Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., was on the bench. Two men, arrested in Sydney-street on Thursday night, appeared. One — James Alexander. Cavill — was charged with using obscene language. A fine of £3, with costs 4s, was Inflicted. The alternative was foui teen days' imprisonricnt. In company with the previous accused on Thursday night was an intoxicated individual. He was charged with intemperance. A conviction was *ocorded, ivnd the man was discharged. Two other persons, charged with insobriety, were also convicted and discharged. It was admitted by William Dugley thai he stole a pair of boots belonging to Thomas O'Brien. The boots were missed from informant's shop, and accused was arrested \n thu street with them tucked under his coal. He waG fined £1, with costs Bs. Penalty for default was seveu days' imprisonment.
