GERMAN GIFT TO MEXICO.
Germany loses no opportunity for showing her interest in thte Latin Republics of America (writes a Berlin correspondent). It is stated that the Kaiser ,will commemorate tho centenary of Mexican independence next autumn by presenting the City of Mexico with a magnificent life-size statue of the German explorer Alexander yon Huniboldt. Commenting on General yon der Goltz's special mission lo Buenos Aires on the occasion of the centenary of Argentine independence, the Tageblatt remarks that the Argentinians have every reason to cultivate closer commercial tias with Germany, because Tariff Reform in England will mean Preference for Canadian and Australian cattle, grain, and wool, to the distinct disadvantage of Argentine exporters. Germany is now surpassed only by England in the volume of goods ohe exports to Argentina, while she imports from Argentina £22,500,000 worth annually —as much as she purchases fiom France.
