In accordance with the State Cabinet's decision (cabled yesterday) releasing some of the imprisoned strike leaders, and reducing the sentences of others, James Butler, William O'Connor, and Daniel Hutton have been released. They were enthusiastically welcomed on arrival at Newcastle. May (imprisoned in connection with the Broken Hill trouble) has also been released. [Butler (president of the Coal Workers' Union), O'Connor (secretary of the Coal Lumpers' Union), and Hutton (executive officer of the 'Colliery Employees' Federation) were each sentenced to eight months' imprisonment.
