The vessel left Melbourne on 23rd April, and four days later fell in with a violent hurricane at the eastern entrance to Bass Straits. She was dismasted, her boats were smashed, and for a time it seemed as if she would founder. The weather began to moderate on 28th April, and efforts were made to sail tho ship, but without success. On Bth May she was picked up by the tug Heroic eighty miles from Sydney, after having f(i.i\fid about off the land for sevpral days. Slio flew distress signals, and fired rockets, but they v.ere not noticed, though Jervis Bay "lighthouse was visible for a couple of days. When the tug came to the rescue, provisions and tobacco had almost 'given out. Otherwise, the barque's crew did not suffer severely. ' BURGLARIES. ' ■» TWO MEN ARRESTED. The efforts of the police to capture the burglar who was wounded by Mr Sutton, manager of the English, Scottish, and Australian Bank, Ltd., at Boxhill, while attempting to rob the bank have so far been unavailing.
