PREVENTION OF CRUELTY.
Mr. J. S. Jameson presided at the fortnightly meeting of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals held in the Chamber of Commerce last evening. Subscriptions were acknowledged from the following : — Messrs Dalgety and Co. , Scouilav and Co., Ltd., and Professor Mackenzie, £1 Is each , Mr. H. Headland, 10s 6d; Mr. W. A. Kellow, 10s; Mr. E. J. Finch, 5s 6d ; Evans Bay Timber Company, Stent and Co., Jones and Co., and Messrs. S. Stidolph, J. MyeTS, W. Hildreth, 5s each ; Mesdames M'Lean, J. J. Boyd, J. Erans, Messrs W. F. Grundy, F. Castle, E. Hopkins, G. Paradise, *2s 6d each; Mr. Miller, 2s; "Office," Is 6d : total, £7. It was stated that cases which the inspector reported upon are receiving attention.
