KARORI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Karori Borough Council met last evening (its adjourned meeting), the Mayor (Mr. C. I. Da sent) presiding. Also present wers Councillors Cathie, Spiers, Wedde, Walni--ley, Standen, Burn, Raine, and Welling. * Accounts amounting co £620 15s lOd were passed for payment. This leaves a credit balance of £1284 2s 7d. The Hockey Association wrote, accepting the terms of the council for use of twe areas on the local recreation ground for the season — £15 for both playing spaces. A resident of Stan den-street wrote, asking that the council should do fome maintaining work on the high l-evel in uhat street. The Mayor .said that tho council had had similar requests from other resident:,, but, -while sympathising with these householders, 'he hardly thought it advisable for the council to commit itself to any liability in the matter, as it would mean that compensation would have to be paid when the council wished to resume that portion of the street. Several previous applications had been declined, and in a couple of cases the residents bad done their own metalling and repairing. The road was cut up by vehicles. It was pointed out that the road was not on the plans, but was syndicate made. Councillor Wedde said that the dedication belonged to the council, and the council would be liable for any accidents that occurred there. After discussion, the question was referred to the Works Committee for report. Complaint was received from a correspondent regarding the uncompleted state of Amy-street. The council was asked to "make a job for all time" by the construction of a concrete kerb and channel, with a little metalling thrown in. The engineer reported that the metalling had been cairied out, and about four chains of metalled footpath. A deputation attended, and mentioned the ineffective drainage at the end of the street. The channels, it was stated, had lately been cleaned out. The letter was referred to the Works Committee.
