The wool sold to Home buyers at the sales just closed amounted to 88,500 bales ; for the Continent, 54,000 bales ; and for the United States, 4000. Held over, 25,500 bales. Greasy combing merinos hardened at ! the close to bar to 5 per cent, above the March rates. Scoureds were in strong I demand, and advanced 5 per cent. ! Medium and fine crossbreds, light-condi- I tioned, suitable for America, declined 5 per cent. All top-making crossbreds j were level with March rates. The outstanding feature of the series has been the sustained competition of Home and Continental buyers, which i sufficed to maintain almost all values, despite American abstention. Ihe Mahia clip, fleece portions, realised lid per Ib, average B|d; Ngatarua, lid and lO^d. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., have received a cable from their London agents, who report that the current "I sales have closed with low eros&breds 5 per cent, dearer, fine halfbreds rather easier, and other sorts firm at opening rates. The following are the average prices of the fleece wool realised at these sales : — E (turned) C over T ) (Masterton), 9 11-16 d; Cross Keys over WA (Masterton), 10id ; W.B over, W (Wanganui), 9d : Maraha.ii (Wanganui), | 9fd ; VVC (Tenui), 9 13-16 d : WL (Eketahuna). lOgd ; II and CM (Carterton), lOd ; C in a triangle (Masterton), 9±d. j The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable advice from the London branch, under dato 12th j iust : — i"The market has closed firm, Will good prospects.
