CARRIAGE OF MAILS.
DEPUTATION TO A MINISTER. VANCOUVER SERVICE. NEW ZEALAND AS A POINT OF CALL. By Telegraph. — Press Association.— Copyright. (Received May 13, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce waited on the£.Federal Post-master-General (Mr. Josiah Thomas) and aired a number of grievances. They urged that the carrying out of the proposal for .the extension of the Vancouver service to Auckland would be a serious matter for those sending correspondence; the first necessity of mail transit being speed. The Postmaster-General ceiteiated his desire to encourage the development of trade, and said that with larger and speedier vessels the time occupied would not be greater than at present. Another complaint was with regard lo alleged delay in sorting mails from New Zealand. A promise was given that this would be remedied. EXTENSION OF SERVICE. ADVICE FROM CANADA. Received May 13, 11.47 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. 'The Postmaster-General has received a cable message from Caiiada, completing arrangements for the extension of the Vancouver' mail service, under existing conditions, for another year from the expiration of the present contract in August next.
