TRAIN FIRED AT.
ANOTHER REVOLVER INCIDENT I'J THE MANAWATU. [BY TELEGRAPH — SPECIAL TO THE POST.] PALMERSTON X., This Day. When the train from Palmerston arrived at Foxton on Wednesday, it was reported that a man had fired at. the engine with a revolver while the train was travelling between Himiiangi and Matuiii. Little importance was attached to the statement at tho time, but it lias since been reported to tho police, and proves to be true. The fireman, H. West, states that at about 7.30 on the evening in question, ha saw a man standing alongside the track waving his arms. As the train did nob stop, he quickly pointed a Tewoiver at the fireman and fired. The bullet hit the cap of the engine alongside the window, out of win eh the fireman was looking, and there is a prominent dent in the iron in proof thereof. The light from the head lamp showed the man" to be tall and thin, ' dressed in black, with a white handkerchief round hia neck, but beyond this there is no clue to his identity.
