MEETING OF COUNCIL. A meeting of the On&iow Borough Council was held laxt night. IU was attended by the Mayor (Mr. J. 6. Harkness), and Councillors W. R. Plimraer, ' K. 8. Stafford, Caplin, A. Ferguson, 0. | W. Darvall, F. Kicrnan, and B. Lynn&berg. A committee was appointed to confer with the managing director of tho Wellington Gas Company, in connection with a request from the company that. the borougn support it in the direction of laying mains through the, district. | A petition was received from Te i Kairanga residents, urging that the* electric light be extended to trmt locality. The matter was deferred, pendiitg consideration of next year's estimates. Mr. A. Carver wrote resigning his position as councillor for the Kaiwaria ward. The Mayor said the proper steps would be taken to fill the vacancy. Mr. J. A. Flimmer wae appointed assessor for the council in the comC?n*ation claim made against tli» h by Mr. Clapham. special order, providing for the raising of the £4500 loan for purchase of catchment area, was confirmed. In reference to Mr. Nairn's subdivision, it was decided to inform him tbat the council had been advised that it was not liable for compensation, and to ask him to state tho basis of his claim. Accounts amounting to £181 14s 6d were passed for payment. The tenders of Mr. Marshall for removing the rubbish at Kaiwarra, 12s 6d a week, and cleaning footpaths and channels fortnightly at tho same place fur 6s 3d, wero accepted.
