"OLD BOYS" TOURNAMENT. [BI TELEGRAPH— SPECIAL TO THE PO2T.J NELSON, This Day. Great interest has been taken in Ihe Old Boys' football tournament for the Devenisn shield, held this year at Nelson. The competition was* inaugurated three years ago by Mr. W. Devenish, president of the Nelson College Old Boys' Football Club, and tho first tournament was held at (Wellington and was won by the Christchurch Boys' High School, who retained the shield last year. The competition this year was won by the Nelson College old boys, who defeated on Kaster Monday the Christchurch old boys by 11 to nil. The Wellington College old boys also competed, but were defeated by Nelson College by 23 to 0. Some excellent football was witnessed, and it could be plainly seen that all the old boys com?eting retained the spirit of clean, hard oolball taught them in their school days. SWIFTS v. PICTON. Yesterday, at Piclou, a team representing the Hwifts Club, of Wellington, met and defeated a representative- I'icton team by four goals to nif. Tho match was interesting, but not a particularly good exhibition of tho gnmp. Among the Piclon men were a number of cx-Knglifh players, hut their w«nt of combination was evident. Their passing rushed occasionally showed promiHo, but the superior tactics of the visitor* out-manoeuvred them. For tho SivifU, Sparrow, Swift (2), and Scott geeured goal*, while among tho I'icton men Barrett, Teuton, Huct,ton (full-back), and Young (goal-koepcrl did rrpditable woik. Mr. B. L. Salmon roferwd.
