♦ PROTECTION ELEMENT ACCENTUATED. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. PARIS, 26th March. The French Senate passed the new tariff by 281 votes to 5. The protection element is accentuated. There was little inclination to protect foreign importers. [The Senate, despite the French Government's opposition, declined to modify its amendment increasing the existing duties on British textile machinery by 25 to 30 per cent.]
