The engineer stated that he had iv-» terviewed Mr. Richardson and MrCable, of the City Tracowajfs, regarding the erection of storage stations for the tramway extension. They both considered these stations w-ould not benefit thai borough or lighten the cost of power., They stated the stations woirld requira to be erected, and boosters and machinery installed ; that two men would: be required to be in constant attendance, and that the cost would not just tify the erection of such stations. Tlifi Golf Links Estate Company notii fied that it intended to finish work t* Huia and Rintoul-streets in accordance with the council's requirements. The Lancaster Land Company, Ltd., advised that it had decided to proceed at once with the construction of Briggs-i street, Tringham-street, and Stoutstreet. A letter was received from the Wei" lington City Council, referring to th* commission set up by the Government' to adjust matters between the Kaarori "Borough Council and the Weßingtoa City Council, with respect -to the anxaU gamation of certain portions of the Ka4 rori Borough with the City of Welling-! | ton. Information was asked respecting re« | solutions passed by the Borough Coun-i ! cil dealing with certain special loansy balance-sheets of the cooncii for th» last five years, and a statement showing separately how much was spent on street-widening, and how much ofl. tramways in. connection with certain loans. Information was also sought > whether two loans were expended ia connection with the tunnel and adjacent roadways ; if not, in what other manner were they expended. The letter stated that .it was considered that the Wellington City •Council was entitled to a share in all the general property la the Karori Borough, including the Council Chambers, and it was asked that tho amount be shown at which the boroughproperties were valued at the time of the severance. The City Council contended that practically the whole of the maintenance of the tunnel should b» thrown on the Borough of Karori, and mention was made that if the matter could not be dealt with by the present commission, it would probably apply for a commission to be set up under th« Public Works Act to deal with it. IS was quite possible, continued the letter, that an agreement could be come to -o» the maim items before the eommieskto resumed, and with this object it was? asked that any proposals the Karori. Borough intended to lay before, th» -commission be submitted, say, within ten days, in detail, with a view to settlement of the matters in dispute. If was also stated, with regard to any, matters of accountancy on which information was desired, that no doubt/ the city treasurer would be allowed stc^ cess to all the Borough Council's book* and voucheis. In connection with the letter, the< Mayor referred to the contention that' practically the whole of the maintenance of the tunnel should be thrown on th* Borough of Karori. "What would the City Council do for its cemetery if it wrre not for the tunnel T" He suggested that a small committee representative of the council would move more expeditiously than if the whole council had to deal fully wifh the matter as a body. Councillors concurred with the proposal, and. the Mayor and Councillor Wedde were appointed to represent the council at the adjusting of matters.
