A RETURN PREPARED. ' In accordance with a resolution mov ed by Councillor Carmkhael, a return has been prepared and given to each member of the council, showing the amount leccived by members of a liability company during the past three years who are also members of the council. S. Luke and Co., Ltd.— lst April, 1907, to 31st March, 1908, £3043 7s; Ist April, 1908, to 31st March, 1909. £2199 14s. lid ; Ist April. 1909. to 28th February, 1910, £893 5s lid— £6l4l 7b lOd. J. Trevor and Sous, Ltd. — Ist May, 1909, to 28th February, 1910. £10. Gear Meat Co., Ltd.— lst May, 1909, to 28th February, 1910, £15 2s*sd. In the discussion on the Finance Committee's report, Councillor Carmichael pointedly referred to a couple of items in the accounts : S. Luke and Co., Ltd., castings, £28 3s 7d out of contract ; Neilson, Murray, and Wolstenholinc, castings, £12 lis sd, in contract. He asked the Mayor if the rates were the same in each case, and, if go, why should not the work be given lo the contracting firm ? - , Councillor Luke : You got good value. The Mayor said he would look into the matter and report at the next meeting of the council. Councillor Carmichael suggested that some attempt had been made by the council's officials to burke information. The Mayor said h« believed that that was not the case. The original resolu tion contained questions, and th's could not be accepted. At the s.v-ite fme he did not think Councillor Carmichael had obtained all the information he sought. The matter then dropped.
