The noise of the Fitzroy explosion was heard for a great distance. Several columns of vari-coloured flame shot into the nir, it is estimated to a height of 500 feet. Iron verandah pillars were twisted and thrown across ihe street, while debris of all descriptions was thrown on to roofs adjoining the wrecked premises. Two little boys in the same room from which the girl Lewis was precipitated had a- perilous experience. A portion of the floor on which the bed stood remained- attached to the walls and the lad 6 awoke to find themselves on the edge of a precipice. The light from the flames enabled them to creep into a place of safety. [The girl Lewis fell in her bed from a top room to tho next floor, and escaped uninjured.]
