A number of settlers from New Zealand to-day made enquiries at tho Lauds Office with a view to taking up land in •the Jimbour Estate. DAMAGE BY FIRE. [BY TZLEGBA7H — PB*SS ASSOCIATION.} AUCKLAND, This Day. A fire at Prospect-terrace, Mount Eden, destroyed a house- owned by H. Paltridge, of Napier. Arthur Hodgson hud moved in a few hours before the outbreak, and during his absence the fire occurred. The cause of the fire is* a mystery. At 7.38 p.m. yesterday the F ; re Brtgade received a call to No. 11, Hopperstreet, where tho back portion of a sixroomed dwelling, occupied by Anthony G. Colter, was damaged by fire, which occurred while the occupants were away. It is supposed that the fire originated through airing clothes in front of a fire. "The maiding is the property of Mr. A. E. Dimock The contents were insured •with tho United offlco for £50.
