Mayne hit WoHk for 2 for his fiist scoie, and then brought 270 up with a beautiful diive along the carpet to tho boundary, and a successsion of placed strokes brought the total to 290, and then to 300, but at this figure Wells found his way to Bardsley's stumps. 300—8—76. Mayne, not out, 19. The innings was then declared closed. There was a long adjournment, necessitated by a. heavy shower of rain, and then Manawatu went in, requiring 217 to syve an inning's defeat.
