THE NAVY LEAGUE.

♦ The first monthly meeting this year of the local Executive of the Navy League, held last night, was attended by Mr. J. B. Harcourt (in the chair), Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, Capt. A. V. , Jones, Messrs. J. W. Joynt, D. M'Kellar, E. J Le Grove, R. Darroch, and C. W. Palmer. The hon. secretary intimated that a supply of the new issue of the Navy League Annual had arrived and was on sale locally at a reasonable figure. An encouraging report was received from the recently formed Feilding sub-branch of the league ; also a letter from the Gisborne subbranch intimating that no less than 632 school members -bad paid their subscriptions locally. A long discussion took place regarding the conditions of service of colonial recruits in H.M. Navy, and the unfortunate fact that so far none of the New Zealanders, upon completion of their fivo years' service, had felt disposed to join the reserve. It was decided to obtain fuller details and to take further steps in this matter. As regards Lord Kitchener's approaching visit, it was resolved to merely send a letter of welcome and enclose a report of the league's work locally. A large quantity of correspondence from oversea and New Zealand branches was submitted, and the hon. »ecr«t«ry'« action tiwwin wa« approved,
