A SUSPICIOUS FIRE.
CORONER'S ENQUIRY. (BI TELEObIAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.} CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. An official enquiry concerning the fire which occurred at the Cafo Cecil on 4th January is being held to-day. The first half-dozen witnesses gave formal evidence. Evidence was given by a girl who discovered the fire as to being awakened by a noise. Other employees denied any knowledge of the fire till their arrival on the scene next day. Superintendent Erck, of the Fire Brigade said the whole of the circumstances pointed to a deliberate attempt at incendiarism. The lessees of the cafe portion of the' building said notice v had been given to them to quit, and they were about to open in new premises. The business was payingi handsomely, and their bank account was good. All their debts had been paid. The fire did not originate in the cafe but on the first floor, in premises occupied by Goyen and King, dentists. The enquiry is proceeding. It- is likely to be a lengthy one.
