■ tm THE GISBORNE AGREEMENT. [BT OTXEOR4PH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISBORNE, 17th January. The agreement arrived at in tha slaughtermen's dispute is for five years.i The employers concede the payment dei manded in the case of sheep and lambs., The rates for beef are not varied, while, in regard to the conditions of killing, which vary materially in different factories, these are brought into line. Two of the most vexed questions dealt with were the provision for learners and th© question of preference to unionists., Satisfactory provision was made for learners being taught, and for a rate of pay for instructors. There is to ba one learner for ten slaughtermen. A. standard of competency was also fixed. As regards preference to unionists, whilst this is conceded, the rules of the federation are to give an open door to all workers of good condnct and who are not in arrears to any kindred union.
