AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. A meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held ldst night, Mr. W. P. Larkin presiding. There were also present : — Messrs J. H. Pollock, 11. Henderson, Chaffey, W. H. Pollock, C. E. Bridge, Thompson, Davis, and W. J. Talbot (secretary). REINSTATEMENTS. The Amateur Athletic' Union of Auckland wrote that Mr. T. W. Leslie, of Wellington, had been reinstated. It was decided" to. forward Mi*. Leslie a certificate of reinstatement, dating from the Ist January. , An application for reinstatement from J. E. l'alconer, Oamaru, forwarded by ithe Otago Centre; was granted. On the recommendation of the Reinstatement Committee,' the council decided to reinstate K. W» Eglinton, Palmerston North ;L. J. ITurrie,. Wanganui ; A. W. Hall, Palmerston North. The reinstatements, of Henry Gardiner, Cambridge, and of Alfred M'Donald, Stratford, were also granted, to the, latter on the condition that he should join either of the two clubs in the district. An application for reinstatement fr.om W.. C. Woodger, Palmerston North, was held over pending the expiration of three years from the time he last competed as a professional. In the case of W. C. Mexted, of Feilding, the application was referred back to the Wellington Centre for an explanation why it could not recommend the ieinstatement. . OTHER MATTERS. , Messrs G. A. Wheatley and'j. L. Davis, of Australia, wrote that they would be unable for various reasons to undertake the proposed tour of the Dominion this year. Mr. Davis stated that he might be a competitor at the championship meeting at Auckland, or else at the next Australasian championship meeting held in New Zealand. A committee consisting of Messrs J. H. Pollock, Marryatt, Bridge, and Thompson were set up to revise the rules at as early a date as possible. It was decided to vote in favour of the Tasmanian Amateur Athletic Club's proposal to alter cross-country championship rules so as to allow of the distance, five or ten" miles, being fixed by the association controlling the event. With regard -to the proposed methods of providing for representation at fu- , ture Olympic games, Invercargill Centre notified its disapproval of the proposal to levy a special fee on club members. Auckland recommended a levy of 6d on each club member. Canterbury reported that 'it could not see its way to agree to the proposed levy, but had the matter under consideration. Affiliation was granted the Hutt Recreation Amateur Athletic Club with the Wellington Centre.
