LATE SPORTING.
Acceptances for the Trentham Welter, Anniversary Welter, Electric, Nursery, and Euapehu Handicaps close with Mr. A. E. Whyte at 9 o'clock to-morrow night. It has been erroneously stated that the distance of the Wellington Cup is one mile and a quarter ; the secretary of the cJub wishes it made clear that the correct distance is one mile and a half. Following on complaints to the" police by picnickers at Lyall Bay that they had been victimised by thieves, three juveniles appeared before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., to-day, on two charges of stealing. Two purees, containing in all 10s 5d and some jewellery worth 12s 6d, were stolen. Accused, who pleaded guilty, were ordered to be thrashed, and to refund between them the value of the stolen property. Messrs. A. L. Wilson and Co. advertise particulars of their weekly sale of furniture and pianos in their rooms, 26, Brandon-street, on Wednesday next, at 1.30 o'clock. Messrs. Thomson and Brown, real estate agents, Customhouse-quay, insert elsewhere a change list of properties open for sale by private treaty, including two blocks of land at Day's Bay, containing 164 and 184 *crea respectively. . The Commercial Agency, Ltd., calls for tenders for a general store at Pongaroa.
