NOBLE'S RETIREMENT.
NOTICE TO BOARD OF CONTROL. By Telegrapb,— Press Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, 15th January. M. A. Noble, the New South Wales cricketer, has formally notified tho Cricket Control Board of his- intention to retire from first-class cricket, owing to the exigencies of his business. The Board has placed on record its appreciation of Noble's great services to Australian cricket. During the course of his remwks in proposing the health of Noble and Trumper at a " welcome home " a. fortnight ago, Colonel Neild, who presided, said it would be a deplorable thing if, as rumoured, Noble were i!o retire irom first-clasS cricket. Mr. Noble, referring to the matter of Jiis retirement, said this was a very grave question for a man to tackle. He recognised, as every man must refcognise, that a time came when he must give up cricket. " Cricket does not keep a man," the Australian captain went, on to say. " There aro times when he must consider himself. There have been things done and said which render it not conducive to/ a man's interests to remain there any longer. Cricket or business? My vote goes with business 1 No man in this club, qr any member of the public, will blame me for that. My associations with the Paddington dub have been such a source of pleasure to me that 1 do not intend to give up cricket so far as that club is concerned. I only hope that my associations with the Paddington Club will remain with me so long as I remain 011 this earth."
