AUCTION AND PROPERTY SALES Messrs. Haicourt and Co. will sell by public auction in their rooms, 195, Lambton-quay, on Tuesday, 25th inst., at 2.30 p.m., by order of the mortgagee and under the Registrar of the Supreme Court, a farm containing 55 acres 3 roods 24 perches more or less, situated at Ponrua-road,, Johnsonville, being parts of section 19 and 21, Porirua district, together with all the buildings erected thereon; also land, being part lots 37, 38, and 39 on D.P. This little vessel has been employed towing scows in connection with the Hutt railway construction works. The hull is, built of hardwood, copper fastened, and, together with the engines and boiler, is said to be in good order. On Monday, at 2 o'clock, Messrs. W. F. Shortt, Ltd., will sell at their rooms, Willis-street, the contents of a seven-roomed house, removed for convenience of sale. The catalogue includes ( an upright grand piano and a drophead ' Singer machine. The goods will be on view on the morning of ' sale. On Monday, at 10.30 a.m.. an assigned stock of general groceries, confectionery, enamelware, crockery, tinware, brushwar'e, show-cases, till, scales, etc., will be sold without reserve at the Fruit : Exchange, , Blair-street, by Messrs. J Thompson Bros., Ltd. Messrs. iCennedy Macdonald, Ltd., will sell by auction on Tuesday next, ab their Exchange Land Mart, a small farm property situate at Taylor's Pass, near Blenheim, in the Marl_orough. district, consisting of some 200 acres of .what is described as first-class agricultural land. The sale is by order of the owner, now resident in London, and the property is for absolute sale. Under instructions from Mr. W. A. Palmer, who is leaving the colony, the firm will submit his family residence, situate at No. 78, Hob-son-street, containing nine roonv;, with balcony. The section measures 34ft lOin by a depth of 1000 ft. Cards to view and further details can be obtained from the auctioneers. Properties for private sale and houses to let are also advertised. Messrs. J. H. Thomson and Brown insert a preliminary notice in reference to tho auction sale to be held at their rooms, Customhouse-quay, on Wednesday evening, 26th January, at 7.30 o'clock^ when they will submit on behalf of a gentleman who has now left Wellington seven residential properties situate at Beachstreet, High-street, and Emerson-street, Petone. Elsewhere the firm also publish a change list of Wellington city properties open for sale by private treaty under the heading of "We Two Sell the Earth." Meisrs^W. H. Turnbull atid Co. insert in this issue their change list of city and suburban properties, and the attention' of buyers is particularly drawn to a property for sale at Hataitai. Messrs. J. W. Braithwaite and Co. announce particulars of a sale to be held on the premises, Alain-road, Johnsonville, on Wednesday. 19th January, at 2 p.m., under instructions from Mrs. Baker. The catalogue consists of the contents of seven rooms, including a piano. There is also a lot of sundries, and horse, gig, and harness. As Airs. Baker is leaving New Zealand, her instructions are to sell absolutely without reserve. The same firm also insert a preliminary announcement of a sale at 74, sLambton-quay, on Friday, 28th January. The catalogue to be submitted includes one new Truscott motor launch, two motor-cars, two oil engines, and several motor cycles. Full particulars will be announced later. Carter, the Magician, while up coun- j try, astonished a certain vendor of Truit by revealing sovereigns in the seller's oranges. So convinced was the man of the reality of the " find " that he flatly refused, after several small pur- ] chases on the part of Carter, to sell the conjuror any oranges. When the magician's party had moved some distance ' away, they turned and saw the fruitseller cautiously halve, one after another, ' five or six oranges in the search for sovereigns. The local hon. secretary of the Navy i League asks us to draw attention to a book recently published in a cheap edition by the London Daily Mail, entitled "Our German Cousins."
