EDUCATION BOARD.
The Wellington Education Board met this afternoon, Mr. Robert Lee (chairman) presiding. The following were also present : — Messrs. J. G. W. Aitken, J. Kebbell, A. H. Vile, W. Allan, A. W. Hogg,, M.P. WORKS AND FINANCE. This committee recommended additions, improvements, and repairs at the following places : — Newtown, Fernridge, Opaki, Manakau (drainage pit), Worser Bay (sanitary convenience), Mangahao", Marima, Lansdowne. Mrs. Simpson was recommended an allowance for extra work. It was recommended that the following be declined : — Repairs to old school, Wainuiomata ; application for contribution towards cost of survey (from Horowhenua County Council). The matter of a classroom platform (Masterton) was recommended to be referred to the inspectors; that tho sum of £1500 be transferred from general account of the board to the new buildings account; that the withdrawal of tho school committee grant from tho estimates bo roferred to the board ; that application (from Island Bay) for wire-netting screens be referred to the clerk of works, re the stormwater drain at Newtown ; that tho clerk of works consult with the city engineer with a view to determining the proportion of tho cost of repairs Which should be borne by City Council and board; that tho board's solicitors Uo instructed to take the necessary steps for collecting rent of land at Mangahao, that the tenancy be terminated, and that the section be advertised for lease. The recommendations were adopted. (Proceeding.)
