ALLEGED INSURANCE FRAUDS.
G. P. SHELDON INDICTED. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received December 10, 8.5 a.m.) NEW YORK, 9th December. G. P. Sheldon, late president of the Phoenix Insurance Company of New York, has been indicted for appropriating a million dollars. He has not been arrested, because he is critically ill. It was stated yesterday that the company, of which Mr. Sheldon was president for twenty years, had decided to write off £200,000, which, it was alleged, Sheldon had illegally used for his owr> speculations. Mr. Hotchkiss, the superintendent of the State Insurance Department, declares that there was no examination of the Phoenix Company's accounts for twenty-two years.
