A cable message advises that the Tyser liner Jfarere left London on the 30th November for Melbourne, Sydney, and the lour principal New Zealand ports. The vessel is expected to reach Wellington about the Ist February. ANDROMEDA LEFT NEW YORK. Cabled advice has been received by the local office of the Vacuum Oil Company to the effect that the four-masted barque Andromeda sailed from New York on the 20th November for Wellington and Auckland. The vessel is bringing a cargo of case oils, and will make Wellington her first port of call. Under average conditions she may be expected to arrive here in March next. The Andromeda is a steel barque of 1778 tons register, 'owned by Messrs. Black, Moore and Co., of London. ANTIOPE REACHES SAN FRANCISCO. A cable message has been received by Caplain McArthur, of the Maoriland Steam Ship Company, stating that the barque Antiope,, which put into Wellington on the 20th September owing to the illness of her master (Captain P. J. Mathieson) has arrived at San Francisco. The vessel was en route from Newcastle, and resumed her voyage from here on the 25th September in charge of Captain Cozens. Captain Mathieson proceeded later to San Francisco by steamer. SUSSEX ARRIVES. A TEMPESTUOUS VOYAGE. About 1.30 o'clock this morning the Federal-Houlder-Shire liner Sussex, from Liverpool, via Sydney and Auckland, dropped anchor in the stream, and she was berthed at the Tara-naki-street Wharf before 8 a.m. As previously reported, the Sussex had a very stormy passage to Australia. The damage to the steamer was more extensive than previous reports have indicated, and one or two members of the crew are still suffering from the effects of accidents received during the violent buffeting the vessel was given in the Southern Ocein. ' Speaking to a Post representative to-day, an officer of the Bussex stated that the vessel had moderate weather from Liverpool to tbs Cape, but shortly after heading for Australia she was assailed by a succession of violent gales. The sea was soon lashed to a mountainous height, and green masses of water thundered over the steamer fore nnd aft. The butcher's shop was wrecked and wasiied overboard, ventilators were wrenched away and burled into the sea, docking winches on the fore deck were rjpped'from their iron frames, and driven before tremendous waves that made a cascade from the bulwarks of the ship. The- Uoois of the engineers' quarters on the port side were smashed in, and the rooms completely gutted by the violent wash of the peas. Ono mighty billow burst open the engineroom door and let in a quantity of water. All this time the steamer was pitching and straining so violently that iron plates in the deck amidships were snapped, and the foundations of a deckhouse amidships Were loosened. At midday on the 28th October, the ship refused to steer, the rudderhead table having broken, and for some hours she laboured well nigh helpless in the trough of the seas, while her -decks were continually flooded. Day after day the gales continued with unabated fury for a fortnight, and with depleted bunkers the Sussex called at Albany for coal. On arrival at Sydney two hundred men were working night and day for seven days to effect repairs, but the deckhouse referred to will have to be lifted and re-secured when the Sussex nexfj arrives Home. The vessel brings a heavy cargo for Wellington, and she will probably leave for Lyttellon and Dunedin with the residue on Wedi uesday. On the 12th inst. the Waikare will withdraw from her present service to prepare for the West Coast Sounds excursion. Her running will be taken Ijy the Mokoia, to leave Dunedin on Tuesday, the 14th, for .East Coast ports. Mr. A. F. Levistam yesterday rejoined the Warrimoo as chief engineer, and Mr. J. McLean came ashore.
