This was tha substance of an opinion expressed at the meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Shopkeepers' Association yesterday apropos of the number of prosecutions of shoplceepors for failing to close at tho proper hour. The chairman, Mr. Seaton, suggested that the Minister of Labour should be asked to instruct tho Labour; Department to inform owners of now, businesses of the requirements of the Act. During the hearing of a recent ca6e tha magistrate aaid that all shopkeepers before opening should make themselves con. versant with tho Act, which caused tha secretary to remark yesterday that "if a man made himself conversant with the Acts he would never open at all."
