THE REPRIEVE OF ROBERTS.

QUESTION IN PARLIAMENT. UNANIMOUS DECISION OF THE EXECUTIVE. _ Replying to a question asked in Parliament by Mr. Laurenson this afternoon as to tho reason for the commutation of the death sentence in the caeo of the Christchurch , murderer , Roberts, Sir Joseph Ward announced that the reprieve had been unanimously decided on by the Government. Hie Prime Minister also stated that at the meeting of tho Executive Council at which (ho matter wa6 disewsed His Excellency the Governor presided, and he was in accord with the decision, arrived at. Sir Joseph added that the determination already announced was based partly upon the Judge's report, partly upon tho report of a doctor, and partly upon tho recommendation of the jury 'itself. The question of admitting Chinese to the local municipal baths will again come before the Napier Borough Council next Wednesday. Councillor Eagleton has amended his motion to read as follows : — "That Chinese be excluded from the municipal swimming bath, but may bathe in a hot plunge bath, the same to be reserved for their use, provided they purchase sufficient tickets to reimburse the council for such privilege."
