A SPRING SHOW.
WAIRARAPA HORTICULTURAL ' • AND INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY. The Spring show was held in the Victoria Hall, Carterton, on Saturday, and was a Success all round. The feature the show was the splendid collections of rose blooms. Sweet peas also made a very fine display. Ihe class for pot- plants' was decidedly weak, lhere were fine samples of strawberries and cherries grown at Greytown, but very little other fruit was shown. Ihe vegetable class was well represented, potatoes especially eliciting good competition^ There was a very fine display of fancy needlework and homework generally. The judges were Messrs. H. Poole (Wellington) and A. Hale (Masterton), Mesdames Wood and Tabuteau (Masterton), Mrs. Bey and Miss Wyatt (Greytown). Mr. J. J. Mead, hon. secretary, assisted by Miss M. Brown, got through his work expeditiously, and the show was opened punctually to time. Messrs. Weightman (Awahuri), Poole (Wellington), and Hale (Masterton), had- good displays of plants and flowers.
James M' Michael was brought before Mr. W. G. Kiddell, S.M., on Saturday in the Police Court, on a cfrarge of being a rogue and a .vagabond. Accused, v who pleaded guilty, was found last night in an empty house owned by Staples and Co., Ltd. Previous convictions against him were only for intemperance. The magistrate warned accused of the illegality of being on private premises without authority, an offence for which he was liable to six months' imprisonment, and advised him to try and find some occupation. A conviction was entered, and an order made for accused to come up for. sentence when called upon.
