ADDITIONS TO PORIRUA MENTAL ASYLUM.
The tender by Mr. John Wood, at £6147, has been accepted by the Public Words Department for additions to the Porirua Mental Hospital. Other tenders wore W. H. E. jlansford, £10,283. The contract time for completion of the work is 31st March, 1910.
At the Catholic Church, Buckle-street, yesterday, the Forty Hours' Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament was begun after High Mass. A number of boys from St. Patrick's College yesterday made their first communion at the church. A brass band concert is to be given in Kilbirnie recreation ground this evening by the Wellington Tramways Band. It is understood that the band contemplates giving other free concerts in different suburbs of the city during the summer months. " Daylight-saving," without doctoring the clock, has been introduced into at least, one Government department in Wellington. Two or three -weeks ago the workers of the General Post Office, in a- desire to strengthen' their week-end, agreed to begin their labours at 8 a.m. on Saturdays instead of 9, and thus escape at 12 instead of one. It is understood that the men of other State departmenis aro prepared to surrender an hour of bed for the sake of adding sn hour to their Saturday afternoon, but it is possible that people who have business with Government offices may make j Borne objection. A meeting of ratepayers from the spo- J oin.l rating district constituted in regard j to Wadestown tramway proposals will bo held in the Concert Chamber of the j Town Hall this evening, at 8 o'clock, to | disduss the proposal to raise a loan of £53,000 for construction of tho tramway, «tc.
