CITY TRAMWAY TRAFFIC.
IMPROVED RETURNS. Fine weather during the last two days has had an appreciable effect on tramway traffic in the city. On Saturday the receipts totalled £448, although there were no special events in the way of races at Mirarnar, or other sports attractions, to induce people to travel. Sunday's receipts were £252 15s 6d, but the traffic would be greater than these figures indicate, for though many people would travel on concession tickets, none of these could be sold on that day. The Sunday extra car from Newtown to Thorndon and back made its first run at 10 p.m. from Newtown and at 10.30 p.m. from Thorndon. The experiment was satisfactory, over 100 people, at 3d each being carried on tho run down from Newtown, and between 25 and 61) on the return journey. The fine warm weather of Sunday made many people think of the seaside, and a result of this was an exodus to Seatoun. Exclusive of fares collected on the Seatown section of the tramway, a total of 133 sixpenny fares was taken v on the car from .Newtown tv the Government Station and out to Seatoun and ick.
